Working Ourselves Out of a Job

There's an uncomfortable truth about the consulting industry: much of it is designed to be needed again. Expertise arrives, delivers, departs, and takes the capability with it, leaving the client no more able to manage the next change than they were before the last one.

Morgan Sindall Construction wanted something different, and said so from the start. As the organisation rolled out its Site Information Management System (SIMS) alongside other strategic initiatives, it recognised that successful delivery would take more than project management. It needed dedicated change management expertise to drive adoption and strengthen business readiness. But crucially, it wanted that expertise to stay, not as a permanent external presence, but as a lasting internal capability. The brief, in effect: help us now, and make sure we don't need you next time.

That's a brief Fluxion is happy to take.

We deployed a Business Change Consultant to work alongside Morgan Sindall's internal team for twelve months, and the shape of the engagement mattered as much as the length. It began with discovery: an honest assessment of the organisation's change maturity and readiness, so the approach was built for the organisation that existed, not an idealised one. From there, we developed and delivered a structured change approach covering the full journey: stakeholder engagement, impact assessments, communications, training, business readiness, and support beyond go-live.

But the real work ran underneath all of that. At every stage, the consultant's job was twofold: do the work, and transfer the ability to do the work. Coaching teams. Embedding practical tools people would keep using. Establishing change management practices designed to survive the engagement, rather than depend on it.

By the end, Morgan Sindall's strategic programmes will be benefiting from a structured, people-centred approach to adoption, with improved stakeholder alignment and clearer governance. But the outcome that matters most is the one still compounding: an embedded change capability, with confidence and readiness strengthened across the business, that will continue supporting transformation long after the engagement itself has ended.

The measure of a consultancy isn't what happens while it's in the building. It's what keeps happening after it leaves. At Morgan Sindall, the answer is: the change keeps getting delivered, by their own people, with their own capability. Which is exactly how it should be.

Fluxion have provided change management expertise to one of our key strategic programmes, and it has been a genuinely positive experience. They quickly understood the programme, what we were trying to achieve and where the real risks to delivery and adoption sat, then shaped their support around that.

Their professionalism, responsiveness and commitment throughout have made the engagement straightforward and successful, and their change management support has been a significant factor in the high levels of adoption we have seen in the early stages of the programme.
