The Migration People Barely Noticed

How Axis CLC brought two businesses together without leaving anyone behind

Every merger has two stories. There's the one told in boardrooms: systems consolidated, domains migrated, milestones hit. And then there's the one told at desks across the country, by the people who arrive on a Monday morning to find that everything they rely on to do their job has changed.

When Axis CLC set out to merge two businesses, the technical challenge was clear enough: move every user across 20-plus UK locations onto a new Microsoft 365 and Azure environment. The migration itself would be centrally managed. But Axis CLC's leadership understood something that many organisations learn the hard way: a migration can be technically flawless and still fail, if the people living through it feel abandoned.

For a national property maintenance and compliance provider, whose teams keep buildings safe, compliant, and operational across a diverse UK estate, downtime isn't an abstraction. Every hour a user spends locked out, confused, or waiting on a helpdesk queue is an hour not spent serving clients.

So Fluxion approached the programme from both ends at once. Centrally, we coordinated the migration: the plans, the visibility, the risk management that keeps a multi-site programme honest. But on the ground, we did something simpler and, in many ways, more important: we put roaming desktop support engineers into the sites themselves. Real people, walking the floors, ready to sit down beside anyone who hit a problem and fix it there and then.

.

The effect was quiet, and that was exactly the point. Issues that could have become tickets, escalations, and frustration were resolved in minutes, face to face. Users didn't just get through the migration; they felt looked after during it. Productivity bounced back quickly, adoption of the new environment was strong, and confidence in the wider transformation grew rather than wavered.

The best migrations are the ones people barely remember. For Axis CLC, the merger's headline story got to stay where it belonged: in the growth of the combined business, not in the disruption of getting there.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Fluxion team for their professionalism, commitment, and resilience demonstrated throughout the migration programmes to date. The work has not always been straightforward, and the team has had to navigate a number of technical, logistical and operational challenges along the way.

Despite this, they have consistently maintained a high standard of delivery and have played a significant role in ensuring that the programme has progressed successfully. They are all warmly and genuinely appreciated! It has been a pleasure having them work as an integral part of our wider Group IT team during these migrations and wherever there next engagement takes them, I know that the customer will be lucky.
